Many years ago, God burned a place in my heart for the continent of Africa. So, when my friend returned from a trip to Mozambique with the photograph he took of this little boy, my heart was immediately captured. He didn’t know the child’s story, but I knew that God did. He wasn’t just a statistic to Him. God knew what his laugh sounded like, the things that made him scared and any secrets he had. I gave him the name Alasan and tried to imagine what his life was like. No doubt, need was a part of his story, which led me to want to play a part in helping children like him. After all, Jesus said, “…to whom much is given…much will be required (Luke 12:48 NKJV).” I don’t want distance to be an excuse as to why I can’t show love by providing food for their empty stomachs and souls. I want to be God’s hands extended, even if an ocean separates us.
All proceeds from “Alasan” will be used to help meet physical, mental and spiritual needs of children in Africa through Africa’s Children. To learn more about their work, please visit www.africaschildrennow.org.
