Whatever You Did For The Least Of These... His name is Alasan and he’s an orphan...an AIDS orphan from Mozambique. At only 4 years old he represents one of over 11 million children who have been orphaned by the HIV/AIDS virus in Africa alone. For a moment I try to put myself in the orphans’ shoes but I pause, for I cannot even begin to comprehend their lives. I ask myself, where do they call home and who shows them love there? Do they laugh like other children who are carefree? I wonder what they see when they look into their future that seems so hopeless. But then I think - what if we are God’s plan for their hope here on earth? Maybe it is our responsibility to care for them by showing love and providing food for their empty stomachs and souls. What if we were given the opportunity to be God’s hands extended...would we act? Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these...you did for me." Matthew 25:40 Fulfilling the Artist’s Vision Many years ago God burned a place in my heart for the continent of Africa. Years later that burden remains for the African people as well as a longing to go there. However, as a result of neurological complications, I am unable to handle the high altitude of a flight to Africa. So, while the door for me to go is closed for now, there is another door that is open for me to give to the great need that is there. This painting represents my open door. At its conception God gave me a vision of it being used to reach the nations. To that end, I have chosen this opportunity to be God’s hands extended in reaching those in Africa who have been infected or affected by the HIV/AIDS virus. Therefore, all of the profits from the sales of Alasan will be used to help "the least of these."
